Natalie Portman Proves Doubters Wrong In Thor: Love & Thunder

The first trailer for Thor: Love & Thunder reveals Natalie Portman as Mighty Thor, immediately proving the character's skeptics wrong.

Natalie Portman Proves Doubters Wrong In Thor: Love and Thunder

Natalie Portman's Mighty Thor makes a momentary appearance in the Thor: Love & Thunder trailer, but he's already serving humble cake to the doubters. Kevin Feige certainly kept us waiting, but the Thor: Love & Thunder trailer is finally here. Getting past Zeus, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and everything in between revealed that the undoubted highlight of the promo is a final sting from Natalie Portman's Jane Foster, now clad in Asgardian armor and wielding a glued-on Mjolnir as "Mighty Thor." There is no context or explanation as to why Jane is no longer a one-dimensional source of exposure and a vapid love interest. She just grabs Mjolnir and strikes a pose.

Natalie Portman's return to the MCU with superhero capacity was first announced in July 2019, sparking a flurry of excitement about this new development on Jane Foster, but not all sound positive. Like the vast majority of comic book superhero actors (Robert Pattinson was left out...maybe), Portman has undergone a grueling training regimen in preparation for the Mighty Thor party. Again, the reaction was mostly one of intense anticipation, but Portman's Thor exercise also sparked a strange discussion about her arms - whether they were real, whether they looked out of place, etc...

The return of Jane Foster to the MCU in Thor: Love & Thunder proves that these lingering suspicions are completely wrong. There's no point in denying it, it's clear that Jen has been doing more than reading books and dating Roy from The IT Crowd since we last saw her in Thor: The Dark World. She is physically stronger, and this is evident in her single appearance as Thor: Love & Thunder. However, the footage also dispels any notion that these gains were anything other than Natalie Portman putting in hours in the gym — just as we've been used to seeing from the likes of her co-star, Chris Hemsworth, over the years. Seeing Portman's Mighty Thor in action for the first time, there's absolutely nothing wrong or out of place here, just save the plush fur shawl wrapped around Thor Odinson's shoulders as he stares in disbelief at his ex-girlfriend's superhero in Thor: Love & Thunder.
