Which One Of Stefan Salvatore’s Doppelgangers Are You?

From new doppelgängers to established character differences, Paul Wesley has played several roles in The Vampire Diaries. Based on the famous L.J. Smith book series, the supernatural drama was developed by Kevin Williamson and Julie Blake. She made her debut in 2009 on The CW, and The Vampire Diaries eventually lasted for eight seasons and spawned two direct spinoffs.

Vampire Diaries take place in a fictional town of Mystic Falls, and a group of friends follows as they deal with various supernatural threats, ancient mysterious secrets, and complex love life. Much of the latter focused on Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) when she became involved with the vampire brothers Stefan Salvatore (Wesley) and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder). Among other things, the series also starred Candice King as the more recently-turned vampire Caroline Forbes, Michael Trevino as the werewolf Tyler Lockwood, and Kat Graham as the powerful witch Bonnie Bennett.

Although each character evolved through The Vampire Diaries' 8 seasons, most of the actors were tasked with bringing only one role. However, one of the central mysteries of the show was the Doppelganger curse - in which both Elena and Stefan were entangled. As such, Wesley and Dobrev often stretched their acting muscles to several different characters.

As a 162-year-old vampire, Stefan served as Elena Gilbert's first introduction to the supernatural world. Although he and Elena seemed to have first met at Mystic Falls High School, it was revealed that he was already responsible for saving her life from a car accident. After he knew that she was not her doppelgänger, Katherine Pierce, Stefan and Elena started a romantic relationship. As such, Stefan served as the romantic leader for the show. Over time, that turned out when the love triangle between Elena him, and his unpredictable brother Damon reached a climax by eventually choosing him in The Vampire Diaries Season 4. However, things changed after Nina left after Season 6 - with a greater focus given the relationship. (And tragic short-term marriage) between Stefan and Caroline Forbes.

Silas

Is Silas Stefan's doppelganger?
The First Immortal Silas

Silas was first introduced to The Vampire Diaries Season 4 and served as a recurring antagonist throughout Season 5 and beyond. Merely teased by name at first, then appearing in a disfigured form, Silas finally revealed himself identical to Stefan - which gave Wesley the opportunity to play the role of a real villain. As the world's first immortal being, Silas was actually the original from which all subsequent doppelgängers were born. Silas was descended from ancient Greece and was a very powerful witch. However, his reign of terror ended, when Stefan managed to kill him and drive him to the other side - the mysterious afterlife of the supernatural. Once destroyed, Silas was sucked into hell and never heard of it again. In the eighth season of The Vampire Diaries, Hell was destroyed as well - possibly erasing him completely from existence.

Tom Avery

Tom Avery

Tom Avery was the most recent doppelganger to appear after Stefan. Tom was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and was a kind, compassionate person who worked as a paramedic. He is greatly appreciated in his field, even those who have a grudge against Tom can only speak positively about his first aid skills. The first glimpsed to him was in the fifth season of The Vampire Diaries when travelers linked him to Stefan via a spell in search of his blood doppelgänger. He appeared fully in the next episode when Caroline and Enzo St. John managed to track him. Unfortunately, his time remained in the vampire diaries short-term. After being able to find them, Enzo quickly broke Tom's neck and killed him.
