The Vampire Diaries season 9
The eighth season of The CW’s supernatural teen drama aired over two years ago, but will fans ever get to ascertain The Vampire Diaries season 9? supported the best-selling book series by L.J. Smith, The Vampire Diaries was developed for the tiny screen by Dawson’s Creek creator Kevin Williamson together with his long-time collaborator Julie Plec and premiered on The CW in 2009. Set within the picturesque but paranormal town of Mystic Falls, the long-running series focused on the vampire love triangle between protagonists Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) and his brother Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) alongside the town’s other human and not-so-human inhabitants.
The Vampire Diaries not only one show but there two spinoffs The Originals and Legacies –The show enjoyed an honest run and its season 8 finale bound up most of its unresolved storylines nicely in an epic episode that featured some major character deaths and happy endings.
Despite its satisfying finale fans of the show still hope another season could be on the cards, but could The Vampire Diaries season 9 ever happen?
The CW Canceled The Vampire Diaries In 2017
Just a couple of months after The CW renewed the show for its eighth season, showrunner Julie Plec announced The Vampire Diaries would end with season 8, feeling the show had come to a natural end. Fans may are disappointed but the knowledge that season 8 would be the show’s last allowed its makers to craft a final season that engaged loose ends and bid a correct farewell to its characters.
The Vampire Diaries Season 9 Isn’t Likely
Star Ian Somerhalder has stated several times he feels The Vampire Diaries chapter of his career is closed and seeing as Nina Dobrev already left the show in season 6 and only returned for the finale, it doesn’t seem likely she’d have an interest in filming a ninth season.
Kevin Williamson has moved on to new things with the CBS anthology thriller series Tell Me A Story, while Julie Plec is currently performing on Vampire Diaries spinoff Legacies and Roswell, New Mexico, so it doesn’t appear to be another season, would fit into their schedules either.
The Vampire Diaries Has Ended But There’s Still Legacies
The Vampire Diaries could be over and its first spinoff The Originals has unfortunately followed suit. However, fellow spinoff Legacies remains on the air and full of enough Vampire Diaries Easter eggs to fill the vampire-shaped hole in any fan’s life. Season 2 of Legacies is about to premiere this October.
