Ryan Reynolds: Deadpool 3 Coming Soon (Updates)

Ryan Reynolds says several updates to Deadpool 3 are coming soon. Reynolds first portrayed Wade Wilson *Deadpool* in X-Men Origins: Wolverine before starring in the character's first solo film, *Deadpool* in 2016. The latter was a more successful, performance of Merc with a Mouth and launched the character into the cultural zeitgeist... Reynolds once again portrayed the antagonist in 2018's Deadpool 2, which also featured characters like Cable (Josh Brolin) and Domino (Zazie Beetz).

Deadpool was created by Rob Liefeld in 1991 as a new addition to the larger X-Men universe and quickly became a hit among Marvel Comics readers. In 2015, a leaked proof of concept video for the movie Deadpool was released. It was directed by Tim Miller, featured Reynolds' voice performance, and had fans clamoring for the full movie. The result was a violent and saucy movie for R-rated superheroes, a big break from the fare of the traditional genre. However, after the release of the sequel, which was a huge success, grossing $785 million worldwide, the franchise ran into a snag. With Disney's acquisition of Fox in 2019, the X-Men cast is now in the MCU, but none have been officially introduced yet, although it appears that Patrick Stewart's cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness might change that. almost. Either way, the transition has left the franchise in retention mode for the past four years with no indication of when Deadpool will reappear.

While Deadpool 3 has been confirmed to happen, nothing concrete has been revealed yet about when the Merc with a Mouth will return. There have been snippets of information about the third installment that has come out over the years, but now it looks like fans are about to learn more. Speaking to Collider, Reynolds (along with project manager Adam Shaun Levy) said he's hoping for a set of updates "sooner rather than later," which will be more evident than the grumblings that have surfaced over the past few years. This is what Reynolds said:

We Levi and Reynolds pretty much talk about everything, but I'm going to say this on this very topic that I'm going to get several updates on that sooner rather than later, I hope. So I'll be able to get into Deadpool-related matters more clearly and definitively down the road.

Reynolds has been exceptionally busy since Deadpool 2, starring in several projects, including The Hitman's Bodyguard franchise, Free Guy, and Red Notice. Both Free Guy and Red Notice are expected to have sequels (multiple sequels if Red Notice) and next month will see the release of Levy's directed Adam project on Netflix. Additionally, Reynolds will appear in the comedy Spirited with Will Ferrell as he prepares for some projects to pursue after a brief acting hiatus. Most recently, Reynolds has been suiting up with Deadpool alongside Taika Waititi's Korg for a promo for Free Guy, which was considered by many as Deadpool's introduction to the MCU.

With writers Bob's Burgers Wendy and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin already eavesdropping to write the script for Deadpool 3, the next question is who will direct the movie. Tim Miller directed the first film, with David Leitch directed by John Wick. With Reynolds and Levi already reaching out on a creative level to great success, perhaps their partnership with Deadpool 3 can continue. In any case, there's no doubt that fans will be eagerly awaiting Reynolds' final update on Deadpool 3's ongoing saga.
